Lemurs have made the headlines for several years in Aransas Pass and surrounding areas. Native only to Madagascar, Lemur sightings in south Texas is unusual and brings along with it a lot of questions. Especially more recently with what seems to be an increase in their numbers, overwhelming zoos and rescue sanctuary's. from San Antionio to Dallas, Tx.

In 2017, Hurricane Harvey devastated the southern coastal bend. One of the costliest and severe hurricanes since Wilma in 2005. Among the people, cats and dogs who were displaced during this time, was a small population of lemurs and a local doctor who lost their home.
Like many, it's taken years to recover and rebuild from this historical event. Many of the lemurs were rescued and a beautiful habitat was built for them. Still some run wild in the area but as you learn more about lemurs you will know that they stick together, in groups of 6 to 20 so it's rare to see one of our lemurs out and about on their own.
